Hello Spring 🌱

● April 2024

Hey Reader,

It’s starting to feel a little spring-like and I’m so happy we’ve finally seen a bit of sun!

Spring feels like a good time to reboot the monthly newsletter, and I’ve got Erin on board to help out.

I’ve now moved all my scheduling to Google + added a couple of new services. Whilst it’s not the most attractive system - it does the job:

Squarespace Updates

◼️

New paywall configuration

Squarespace are releasing a new paywall configuration for those selling videos, which aims to convert more site visitors into paid customers. It places the paywall only on the video player, so visitors can freely browse a video library and feel confident to make a purchase. Whether they are signed-in members or not, visitors will now see the snazzy new treatment instead of the video player!

What you need to do is: edit the settings for your existing Video collections to ‘Video player only’. It will be the default paywall position for all future monetised Video collections.

For extra points, use this new feature along with Public Reviews!

◼️

Invoicing is now available on all plans!

What's changing? Squarespace are aiming to remove price as a barrier for your clients who are comparing Squarespace to free invoicing platforms. So subscribers on all plans can now create, send and receive invoices, only paying for credit card processing fees for invoice sales, no extra transaction fees will be added. Invoices and Projects now also have separate pages and are much easier to find in the main Squarespace navigation.

What’s not changing? Business plans and above will still need to sell standard physical and service products and digital content. They will still be charged a 3% transaction fee for sales and the relevant plan-dependant digital product fees still apply. Personal plan subscribers will need to upgrade to sell products or services on their sites.

◼️

Klarna for Squarespace Payments

To further accessibility and customer reach, Squarespace are also introducing Klarna integration for sellers in the US. The buy now, pay later solution has been a game-changer for many business’ bottom lines.

If you’ve already onboarded to Squarespace Payments: ‌go to your Store Payments panel under Selling and toggle Klarna to “on” to begin accepting payments made with Klarna.

If you haven’t onboarded to Squarespace Payments yet: visit your Payments dashboard to begin the short process.

Squarespace Circle members

There are loads of great new features coming out of beta at the moment - check out the release tracker for all the latest news. My current favourite involves the header & footer - but that’s all I can say about that for now.

Your monthly reminder to…
Check your URL slugs

What’s a URL slug?
It’s part of a web address that identifies a specific page or resource. It's usually based on the page's title and is made up of lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens. It makes URLs more readable and helps with search engine optimisation.

How to change them?
Squarespace > Find your page > Click on the little cog next to your page name for the Page Settings > navigate to your URL Slug
If you change your slug, remember to set up a 301 redirect so that search engines know that your page has moved and search engines transfer the old page's rank to the new page.

Thanks for reading, catch-up next month!

● March 2024 catchup Hey Reader, How’s your 2024 going? I hope you’re having a great March so far! It feels like the weeks are rolling by so quickly and the Easter holidays are fast approaching. Since my son started full-time school, I like to treat the school holidays as an enforced change of pace. By no means a holiday (ooof!) - but I find the switch-up is good for me. I'm always itching to get back to work and the change of pace has done me good. Photo by Alex Sedgemond It’s been a busy...
